Types of Shipping Refunds

1. Voided Label Refunds

2. Service Failure Refunds

Refund or credit when the carrier fails to meet their service commitment.

3. Billing Correction Refunds

Refund for overcharges, incorrect weight charges, or duplicate charges.

4. Lost or Damaged Package Refunds

Insurance claims for lost or damaged shipments (if insurance was purchased).

USPS Refund Policies

Priority Mail Express - Guaranteed Service

Eligibility: Refund if not delivered by the guaranteed date/time

Requirements:

  • Must file claim within 30 days
  • Delay must be verified by USPS tracking
  • Some exceptions apply (weather, etc.)

Refund Amount: Full postage refund (excluding insurance or other fees)

Other USPS Services

No guaranteed delivery dates, but you may be eligible for refunds if:

  • Package is lost (not delivered within 30 days)
  • Package is damaged and insurance was purchased
  • You were charged incorrect postage

FedEx Refund Policies

FedEx Money-Back Guarantee

Eligible Services:

  • FedEx Express services (overnight, 2-day, etc.)
  • FedEx Ground (limited guarantee)

Requirements:

  • Shipment delivered after committed time/date
  • Request refund within 15 days of delivery
  • No exceptions that void the guarantee occurred

Exceptions (No Refund)

  • Weather delays
  • Acts of God or public enemy
  • Incorrect address provided
  • Recipient not available for signature delivery

UPS Refund Policies

UPS Guaranteed Services

Most UPS services have delivery guarantees:

  • UPS Next Day Air
  • UPS 2nd Day Air
  • UPS 3 Day Select
  • UPS Ground (in select areas)

Refund Process:

  • Automatically refunded if service guarantee not met
  • Refund typically processed within 7-10 business days
  • No claim needed for late deliveries

Directly with Carrier

For insurance claims or complex issues:

  1. Contact carrier customer service
  2. Provide tracking number and proof of value
  3. Submit required documentation
  4. Follow up on claim status

Scenario 1: Package Delivered Late

Action: File service failure claim within required timeframe

Expected Outcome: Full postage refund if guarantee applies

Scenario 2: Package Lost in Transit
